Digital Storytelling and Reel Works

Girl In Progress

1. I easily connected with this digital story. I liked how she used images of powerful women that are in history. I also liked the music that went along with the story. The story that the girl was telling was one that a lot of girls could connect with. I know I am a shy girl so connecting with this digital story was a big part in why I chose it as a favorite.

2. From this I learned that though you have insecurities you can be what you want in life. I also learned that there are people that have the same insecurities as you. It also showed me that making a digital story can encourage people and help them think of what is really happening in their lives.

3. I was surprised of how well the pictures flowed with the words of the author. I didn't realize that there was a way to make your own story and have the pictures flow like they did in this digital story.

4. The digital story allows young people to express their thoughts and feelings. These stories show what is happening in everyday life. The people who make these stories are real and have real thoughts and want to share with the world their experiences. I think it is a great way to help their self esteem because not everyone has the courage to look at someone and speak. By making a digital story they don't have to stand up in front of people and talk they can add images and music to help tell their story.

5. These digital stories show that the teens are engaged in their culture because they are showing views of their culture. Also, the teens are showing the world what is part of their culture and life.

6.Yes, these videos show a healthy respect of multiculturalism and diversity. All the teens that made a reel works video are different in many ways. After watching these videos it made me think about how everyone goes through the same thing no matter what culture, race, religion or class you come from.

  1. Though I am not a girl, I enjoyed this video very much and the struggles that she had to go through. I liked her outlook on life and am glad to see students using digital story telling in this way.

  2. I'm using this story in 3351 to help teachers better understand why some teens stay to stay in school!

  3. I really enjoyed the flow of the narration coupled with the images as well, Nissa. I am glad that even shy students are able to find their voices through digital media; this is akin to giving a class presentation, but not having to actually stand in front of the class. I look forward to watching more of these videos because each brings a unique perspective about so many different cultures

  4. What I really liked about this video was how she perceived the female way of life, where most girls are mean to each other and push others into insecurity. I learned how being shy is a way of self protection and a way to avoid judgement. This video supports multiculturalism because this applies to all females.
