Final Project Brainstorm!

"Critical media literacy not only teaches students to learn from media, to resist media manipulation, and to use media materials in constructive ways, but is also concerned with developing skills that will help create good citizens and that will make individuals more motivated and competent participants in social life (p.371, D.Kellner and J. Share)."

Using filmmaking inside the classroom, gives the students the opportunity to use technology for professional uses. They are learning the skills they will need for jobs in the future. Filmmaking can be used with any subject, so this allows for the students to be engaged in what they are learning instead of just reading and writing from a book. The student is being actively hands on.

" Today, every teacher needs to be a media composition teacher." (pg. 85)

" But whether we like it or not, media messages shape peoples beliefs, attitudes and values." (pg. 113)

"Many parents and teachers feel like children and young people are the experts when it comes to online media" ( pg. 128)

Finding stories that connect people is newsworthy.

1: To help students use their own voices for advocacy & social change.
2: To build students' ability to be active, thoughtful "readers" or interpreters of the media messages in their cultural environment.
3: To develop students' skills in using digital technology tools.
4: To increase student motivation and engagement in the classroom.
5: To promote creativity & self-expression.

"School leaders can inspire educators by helping teachers make large and small steps toward embracing new ideas and instructional practices." (pg. 170).

These are just a few of the quotes that I will be using in my final project. I think that this will show a great deal of what all is learned throughout this course from August- December. Not only did I learn a lot about digital media, I learned a lot about how to do certain things online that I had no clue how to do before I took this course.

  1. I also feel this course taught me a great deal about finding information, searching, and creating media in a new way. Good luck on your Final Project as I think your quotes will connect with your reader very well.

  2. This was a great course for learning hands on. There was so many tools I had never used before but through the class project I have persevered. LOL

I have expanded my digital media literacy beyond just power point and you tube. For me the advantages were- I can use these same tools to help teach my youth creatively and challenge them to build projects out of the norm like we had to.
    This was so much fun.
